Men with Depression and Mental Health Issues is a state of mind not an emotional state. To get rid of depression you need to change the way you think. Of all deaths classified as suicide in Australia in 2009, over three-quarters (77%) were males (2,132), making suicide the 10th leading cause of death for males. Male suicide occurs at a much higher rate than that for females. In 2009, the age standardised male suicide rate was 14.9 deaths per 100,000 males compared to the female rate of 4.4 deaths per 100,000 females. However, the data for 2009 are subject to revision. The suicide death rate has declined since 2000 from 19.8 deaths per 100,000 for males and 5.2 deaths per 100,000 for females.
We would like to re-ignite the male spirit away from these contagious issues and get men to understand as they grow older what is happening to them which is subjecting them to a lot of physical and mental changes. Before we have been encouraged into thinking this was only women’s domain!
We also want to re-ignite the male spirit in younger men who are suffering from depression for whatever reasons. We also know Alcohol and Drug Abuse plays a huge part in men with depression issues. Manic Depression or Bipolar Disorder is misunderstood as well. Changing your mind set which is the way you think about things is the first step.
