Los Roques is heaven on a island. The mostly unknown Los Roques archipelago is a federal dependency of Venezuela and certainly a well kept secret for many years. We first become aware of it 17 years ago from a fishing show on ABC television featuring bone fishing there and were captivated by the amazing beauty and isolation of the place.  Los Roques consists of approximately 350 islands, cays, and inlets and sits 156 kilometers north of Venezuela’s central coast. If you have your own boat or yacht you may never leave this beautiful amazing place…

If you don’t have your own boat or yacht then you can stay in one of the many Postada’s on the islands. These chill places you may never leave also. Needless to say if you like the sand sun and ocean this place rates. The bone fishing is also world famous to those who know.

As we are more divers than fishermen the diving around the islands is not to shabby either. Crystal clear waters with excellent visibility. Los Roques was declared a National Park in 1972 so it’s pristine state is evident of that. It’s also too far to travel for the rat race tourism market thank god. Places like Los Roques were plentiful around the globe in the 1970’s but most have been over run by idiot tourists with unconscious behaviour now.

Los Roques is heaven on a island and rich in History and Nature with it’s people friendly and relaxed. We will be going back again soon…
